Patiently awaiting new kits

We’ve scaled down on our amount of rabbits over the last month or two. We now have 4 bucks and 5 does and will most likely let 1 pair go to a new home soon. Although the adult buns are getting fewer, I’m happy to post about two pregnancies!

Levi and Mushroom mated for the second time about 2 weeks ago. I’m still hopeful for a BEW, but we’ll have to see. Their previous kit was so cute and super friendly.

Mushroom’s expected due date is 8 August 2013 and there’s already someone that’s booked a kit from her expected litter! Mushroom is a lovely bun, but not very friendly during pregnancies! The band-aids on my hands can vouch for that!

Then we’ve paired Bugs and Clover. They are exremely cute and affectionate together and their little fuzzy faces look like a match made in heaven. Clover’s mommy is Phoebe, so there might be a chance of a himalayan kit, but we don’t really care, as long as the kit or kits are as adorable as Bugs’ previous little sweetheart, Bonbon. We miss that cute fur ball so much!

Mushroom & Levi

Levi and Mushroom have been paired up and Mushroom is at 30 days today in her pregnancy. I am very hopeful to have little black and white buns and maybe even one with blue eyes. Obviously I will keep you posted on the results! Happy weekend to all our bunny friends!

Poor Phumela bunnikins

I give up! I don’t know what is going on, but poor Phumela had another little peanut baby. She kindled on Sunday, 31 March 2013, but the kit only lived a few hours. Once again it was terribly small and the hind legs were deformed. Shame, it’s such an awful ordeal, but Phumela is ok and still healthy. We’ll probably give her a bit of a break now. There’s no rush and Winter is coming anyway. Poor girl…

Happy days for Clover

Clover had one kit on Monday, 25 March 2013. The kit is healthy and Clover seems to be doing quite well with looking after it. I am so very happy that she has finally had a kit and more so that the kit is healthy!
In the photograph above it can be seen how much of her own fur Clover has pulled out to keep the kit warm in the nest.

Nesting, nesting!

So yesterday morning, 19 March 2013, Clover started building her nest! She is also spot on with timing as she is on day 27 of her pregnancy. If all goes well, we will have new kits on Sunday.
And while mommy is busy nesting, daddy (Noah) was having a ball in the garden – completely oblivious to what’s going on…

Clover and Noah

Clover is currently 3 weeks pregnant. We moved her in with Noah and the two get along famously. They never fight and as far as I have been able to see he only mated with her on the first day they were together. Since then they have been like a couple in love – grooming each other constantly. Clover’s due date is 24 March 2013.

More bad news…

It seems we’re on a spree of really bad luck. On Friday, 22 February 2013, Phumela had her second litter. She was pregnant with Bugs’ kits. She only had one kit, but it was also a peanut. It is so awful to open up the nest and see this incredibly small baby rabbit and to know that there’s no chance of survival. It lived for 2 days and yesterday when I peeked into the nest I found that is has passed on over the rainbow bridge… Poor Phumela kept sitting over it like she thought it needed more feeding and then she pulled more fur out and put in on top of it. I had her on my lap in front of the television the entire evening to distract her a bit. She seems better today…

It’s a bunny named Bugs!

Two weeks ago, on 17 January 2013, I went to visit Tammy from The Little Rabbitry. She had a Himalayan buck for me and I obviously jumped when she told me about the buck, because we’ve been searching for a small buck to pair with Phoebe for ages. I would like to introduce Bugs, the handsome jersey wooly Himalayan in the photograph above.

And then Bugs were introduced to Phoebe the following day. They mated. THREE times! Expected due date for Phoebe is 19 February 2013. Himi babies at last!!! Bugs also mated with Phumela – her expected due date is 20 February 2013.

Clover steals attention again

Clover really runs the household. But who can be blamed – honestly, just look at that little face! On Friday, 7 December 2012, Clover had a date with Noah – it was her first time with a buck and I’m pleased to say that all went well. Her expected due date is Tuesday, 8 January 2013. It’ll be our first 2013 litter!

New babies

Well, whenever there’s sad news, there’ll always be a little bit of cheerful news to follow. I am happy to report that Juno and Phoebe have both kindled and the kits are all healthy and doing really well.

Phoebe had a beautiful little dark grey kit on Thursday, 22 November 2012.

And Juno had three kits on Saturday morning, 24 November 2012. These three are sure to be blue-eyed white buns. Let’s hope at least one of them’s a little boy!
